ActionAid Bangladesh
ActionAid works in over 70 countries across the world with more than 15 million people. ActionAid is a global movement of people working together to further human rights for all and defeat poverty. ActionAid Bangladesh (AAB) is a subsidiary of ActionAid International that tries to tackle local problems with country-specific values and strives to improve the overall lives of excluded people in Bangladeshi society. We believe that we can only achieve our goals by working collaboratively – locally, nationally, and globally. ActionAid Bangladesh, an associate member of the ActionAid Federation, has been working in Bangladesh since 1983 to eradicate poverty and establish social justice. For nearly four decades, the organization has focused on climate justice, gender equality, ensuring the safety of women and children, and establishing an equal rights-based society, particularly with marginalized communities.
To achieve social justice, gender equality, and poverty eradication by working with people living in poverty and exclusion, their communities, people’s organisations, activities, social movements and supporters.
A just, equitable and sustainable world in which every person enjoys the right to a life of dignity, freedom from poverty and all forms of oppression.
Our work focuses on:
Women’s Rights and Gender Equity – Promoting women’s leadership, safety, and equal participation in society.
Youth and Social Justice – Supporting young people to become leaders, advocate for rights, and create opportunities for decent work and innovation.
Resilience and Climate Justice – Helping communities adapt to climate change and strengthen their resilience to disasters.
Child Rights and Development – Ensuring children have access to learning, protection, and opportunities to thrive.
Humanitarian Response – Supporting communities affected by crises and disasters with solidarity and long-term recovery.
Through partnerships with social movements, youth groups, and civil society networks, ActionAid Bangladesh strengthens people’s collective power to bring lasting social change.
ActionAid is an International Federation working closely with people living in poverty to end poverty and injustice. Established in the United Kingdom in 1972, ActionAid is present in 70 plus countries and territories around the world and actively supports in poverty eradication and development efforts in Asia, Europe, the Americas, Africa, and Oceania (Australia). ActionAid Bangladesh started its journey in Bangladesh as a chapter of ActionAid UK in 1983 with a response to the Bhola cyclone in the coastal areas. It has been working in the country for 40 years, supporting millions of people for graduating out of poverty, building a just and dignified life for themselves and their communities. ActionAid Bangladesh officially became an Affiliate Member of ActionAid International Federation in June 2014 and renewed its commitment to the AA Federation to uphold the vision, mission and values of ActionAid. The global strategy 2018-2028 of ActionAid International entitled “Actions for Global Justice,” was adopted in December 2016. This global strategy outlines the direction for the Federation for a period of 10 years, focusing on advancing the rights of women and girls, providing sustainable livelihood solutions that are resilient, and expanding political space for vulnerable groups to participate in decision making as well as supporting vulnerable communities before, during and after emergencies. The strategy seeks to build a just society in which women and girls have the right to determine their lives in dignity.
